COME TI RAFFREDDO LA SCHEDA VIDEO.

()

INTRODUCTION.

This “short” article quickly describes one of the most classic methodologies for cooling memory chips and graphics chips, both involved in overclocking the video card. There is a relationship that links the instability of the system to the operating temperature: the higher the temperature produced by the video chip, the less likely it is that the system is stable. Too much heat damages the components and leads to an incorrect interpretation of the processed data. At high temperatures, bits 0 and 1 can be exchanged, causing system crashes, as well as uncontrollable instabilities. For these reasons, cooling the video card is vital and combats all forms of instability.

COOLING TECHNIQUES:

The cooling techniques of the video card are as follows:

1) Apply a fan on the heatsink of the graphics chipset and install heatsinks on the memory chips of the video card. We will also see how it is possible to install a heatsink on top of the video chip.

2) Install an additional fan in a PCI slot.

3) Use complete cooling systems that can be purchased online.

FIRST POINT:

The first technique does not present any difficulty, we must install (with screws or glue) a heat sink and a cooling fan in the upper face of the graphics chipset. In addition to cooling the video chipset, you can dissipate the heat of the memory chips by using “cutouts” from an old heatsink (Slot 1, or Socket 7). Now, let’s see step by step, the cooling technique of the video chipset. Remember, before proceeding, to discharge the electrostatic energy by touching the PC cabinet.

A) Turn off the PC, disconnect the monitor cable from the video card connector, open the cabinet, remove the AGP or PCI card from the slot, and measure the dimensions of the video chipset and memory chips (see figures 1 and 2) .

B) Collect an old heat sink (e.g. figure 3), and then, with a hacksaw, cut it to the dimensions of the video chip just detected.

FIGURE 3.

C) Then use cyanoacrylic glue (Super Attack) to fix the heat sink to the video chipset. The glue must be applied in the perimeter of the heat sink. Inside the perimeter you will have to spread a light layer of heat-conducting paste. Place the heatsink on top of the video chipset, and wait until the glue has set. (It is important to make sure the heatsink is properly secured).
