Nell’ultimo aggiornamento la stessa microsoft ha dichiarato ed ammesso dell’esistenza di un bug che interessa i sistemi Windows 10 dalla versione 1903 (May 2019 Update) all’ultima 2004 (May 2020 Update) e che impedisce al sistema di usare la porta USB a cui avete collegato la stampante se l’avete disconnessa o spenta dopo aver spento il PC.
Il bug si manifesta al riavvio del sistema Windows 10, con la porta USB della stampante che sparisce dalla lista delle porte e qualsiasi richiesta di stampa fallisce.
“Se collegate una stampante USB a Windows 10 1903 o successivo, poi spegnete Windows e disconnette o spegnete la stampante, quando avviate Windows nuovamente la porta USB della stampante non sarà disponibile nella lista delle porte di stampa”, si legge in un documento tecnico. “Windows non sarà in grado di completare alcuna operazione che richiede quella porta”
Il problema interessa le stampanti USB con driver dotati di un Language Monitor perché la funzione di callback OpenPortEx di questo Language Monitor non viene chiamata e “di conseguenza, l’utente non può compiere operazioni dipendenti dal funzionamento di Language Monitor”.
“In Dispositivi e Stampanti del Pannello di Controllo, quando selezionate Proprietà server di stampa e la scheda Porte, la porta per la stampante USB (ad esempio ‘USB001’) non verrà visualizzato nell’elenco delle porte della stampante”, aggiunge Microsoft.
“Di conseguenza, l’utente non può eseguire operazioni dipendenti dall’esistenza della porta”.
Il problema può essere evitato collegando la stampante USB accesa prima dell’avvio del sistema Windows 10.
Microsoft ha confermato di essere al lavoro su un fix per questo bug che sarà rilasciato nel prossimo futuro. Al momento non c’è una lista di quali stampanti sono interessate dal problema.
Il problema resta con il May Update 2020
Gli utenti dovrebbero sapere, comunque, che questo bug è stato comunicato da Microsoft solo l’11 giugno e, di conseguenza, la patch non è stata ancora pubblicata. Chi è in attesa di scaricare e installare il May Update 2020, che dal 10 giugno è disponibile per tutti, non troverà in questo primo aggiornamento semestrale del 2020 la soluzione al problema. Nella migliore delle ipotesi, quindi, il bug verrà risolto con un aggiornamento incluso nel prossimo “Patch Tuesday” che verrà rilasciato il secondo martedì di luglio.

“In Devices and Printers of the Control Panel, when you select Print Server Properties and the Ports tab, the port for the USB printer (for example ‘USB001’) will not be displayed in the list of printer ports,” adds Microsoft.
“As a result, the user cannot perform operations dependent on the existence of the port.”
